About Wheelhouse Writing Retreats

Wheelhouse is a sailing term, originally. It shelters the wheelman, so he can steer the ship on its course clear-eyed, safe from wind and rain. Now, we're writers, not sailors, sure. But we do the very same thing.

Wheelhouse Writing Retreats provides custom-tailored mentorship and teaching from professional screenwriters, a tight-knit community of peers, and the rarest commodity of all: peace to write. An antique waterfront estate restored to perfection, catered meals showcasing local specialties, and best safety practices to build an environment safe from COVID-19 - we free you to write your best.

You tell your story. We'll keep the rain off your back.

Sam Bromell

Sam Bromell is a long-time collaborator of Baz Luhrmann.  He served as a Co-Producer on the Netflix series The Get Down and co-wrote on the screenplay for the upcoming Elvis Presley Project  starring Tom Hanks and Austin Butler -- the culmination of a seven-year working relationship between Sam and Luhrmann.  He’s also written fashion films, for brands like H&M, as well as a series of short films, starring Judy Davis, which were exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Currently, Sam is developing a number of new TV projects set in the world of international espionage.

Sam studied Political Science in Washington, D.C., after which he spent two years teaching English in Ukraine.  He also briefly studied Russian Studies at the European University in St. Petersburg.

Bobby Peretti

Wheelhouse Films combines three of Bobby's favorite things: cinema, teaching, and autumn on Cape Cod. So he's pretty thrilled about it.

Bobby studied Writing and Film at Johns Hopkins University, where he wrote and directed his first short film, The Cyclist.  He co-wrote another short, The Reading, and has several feature scripts in various stages of development. Before founding Wheelhouse, he worked as a reader, a director's assistant, a script doctor, and a writer for several NYC-based independent production companies.
